Morgan took aim at Australia, saying the nation had “ran a bulldozer” through the Spirit of Cricket over the Jonny Bairstow stumping.
Stefanovic attempted to get the presenter on the Today Show for an interview but was shut down with Morgan stating he’d appear after England won the series 3-2.
The ridicule kicked off among those on the show with Stefanovic rolling up his sleeves and delivering a fiery tirade to the Englishman.
“He’s such a lightweight, he’s pathetic,” Karl added. “I can’t believe it, what a loser.”
The video was posted on Twitter with three chickens followed by Morgan’s handle.
Morgan replied: “Book me in for Tuesday, August 1. You won’t be so cocky then.”
As we all know the Ashes wrapped up in a 2-2 draw with Australia retaining the urn yet again.
Despite the hostilities between the two parties, Stefanovic tried to get Morgan back on the show in the wake of Australia securing the World Cup trophy.
The offer was put forth to Morgan to appear and discuss the tournament and Australia’s record-extending win.
“We invited Piers Morgan on our show to celebrate Australia’s success, the guy has been bagging Australia for months, still whining about that run out of The Ashes,” Stefanovic said.
The response should come as no surprise. Morgan emphatically shut down the offer with an extremely hostile message.
“I would rather garotte myself with rusty swords,” Morgan said in response.
Morgan, as you’d expect, took the Aussie victory incredibly well. Photos of him in attendance showed him yawning before he took to social media with an extremely sarcastic message.
“Congrats to Australia on winning the World Cup,” Piers tweeted. “So well deserved after the Ashes debacle. I couldn’t be happier for you all.”
He accompanied the half-hearted congratulations with a gif of Jack Nicholson smashing some dinner plates in The Shining – a delicious reflection of his mood in the wake of the Aussies’ win.
A matchwinning innings from “certified freak” Travis Head ended any doubt about the result, and forced Piers to admit he was watching the “new Steve Waugh”.
It got even sweeter for Aussie cricket fans when Glenn Maxwell hit the winning runs.
